Durmitor Rock Climbing

Have you ever thought about trying outdoor sport climbing? Whether you are a beginner who only wants to try this magnificent sport or you are an experienced climber, Durmitor Adventure team takes you to the limestone rock above the deepest canyon of Europe.

Within Durmitor National Park, you have a chance to try out sport climbing on the Pirlitor climbing walls, located 11km from Zabljak, on the edge of the Tara Canyon. On the spot, there are two walls with the routes suited both for beginners and expert climbers. The Eastern Wall is an easy, inclined wall, ideal for beginners. There, you will find six climbing routes with difficulties between grade 3 and grade 4+ (French scale), all about 10 m long. The Western Wall is a vertical, articulated cliff with fourteen long routes, with difficulties from 5b to 7b+ and length up to 30 meters.

Both parts of the wall have been prepared with the safest sport climbing equipment.

FAQs

I have never climbed before. Can I just drop in and start climbing?
Yes! There is no restriction for someone to just come in and climb. Climbing is fun and rewarding sport that can be enjoyed by all ages and experience levels.
Is it dangerous?
As in every outdoor activity, there is a certain risk, BUT when performed properly, rock climbing is a completely safe sport. It’s true that accidents do happen, but if you have an instructor who is smart and responsible, you don’t have much to worry about.
But what happens if I fall?
The rope catches you. There are two ways of putting the rope on the wall, depending on your expertise. If you are a beginner, your guide will put the “top-rope” for you so when you climb and fall, your falls are not more than few centimeters.
Do I have to climb all the way to the top?
No. You climb as long as you can.
What is Top roping?
In top-roping, the middle of the rope is clipped to an anchor at the top of the climb. Both ends of the rope are at the bottom of the climb. The belayer takes in the rope as the climber ascends, so the climber is always protected with an overhead rope and any fall will be very short. Top-roping is very common among beginning climbers, as well as in indoor climbing gyms. It is what you will be doing on the tour.
What should I bring?
You should have whether climbing shoes or some other pair of shoes that you find comfortable for the activity. Bring some water and snack and a clean shirt for afterwards.
Do I have to climb all the way to the top?
No. You climb as long as you can.
Do I have to be strong?
Rock climbing is more about finger strength, core strength, and most importantly, technique. We try to keep our weight on our feet and use leg muscles to push us up the wall whenever possible.
Will the tour be cancelled if it rains?
Yes, the tour will be canceled if it rains.
How can I climb if I'm afraid of heights?
Almost everyone is afraid of heights. Some of us just get busy with the climbing and forget about the heights, while others just try to manage and control their fear, until they get used to the heights.
